0.700/1.000 specific gravity a and 10/70 Degree Bsume Dual scale Hydrometer for liquids lighter than water. It comes with free 500 ml plastic or glass measuring cylinder. Depending on yournchoice. The hydrometer should be st least 1" taller than the hydrometer with a minimum diameter of 50mm
HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT RANGE HYDROMETER SCALE YOU NEED?
When measuring with a hydrometer to know the quality of diesel , you should have an idea of what reading you are looking for. If the reading does not fall within the range of the hydrometer, you should use hydrometer that include the expected reading. Adjusted the reading g up or down depending on if the hydrometer sinks or is overly buoyant.
The best and acceptable Diesel will show a specific gravity range of (0.850)g/cm3. With Density less than (o.840)g/cm3 must jsve been adulterated. A sure way to help your engine last longer is by measuring the quality of your diesel with specific hydrometer
Range 0.700 - 1.000g/cm3.
You will be surprised at the difference in quality between various diesels supplied that can lead to low fuel economy , this will potentially shorten the life time of your engine or leads to unnecessary costs. Low diesel density can also lead poor combustion efficiency , costing you in excessive fuel b
Fill your hydrometer jar with diesel, about 3/4 . Insert the hydrometer slowly . do not drop it in. Now , give it a spin, this will dislodge any bubble that may have been formed. Once the hydrometer comes to rest. ,observe the plane of the liquid surface . You eyes must be horizontal to this plane. The point at which this line cuts the hydrometer scale is your reading. In this case, if you are checking for the quality of diesel, immediately the reading settles for 0.850g/cm3, be rest assured that the diesel is of good quality. If it is either higher or lower than that mark, the diesel is adulterated.
