The adapter has specific features and requirements for usage:
Audio Output: The 3.5mm audio jack allows you to play game sounds through headphones, a PC speaker, or an external sound system instead of the TV. 
Power Supply: The device needs to pull 5V of power to function. You power it by connecting the included USB cord to the console or a wall charger. 
Settings Requirement: Before using it, you must go into the PS2's system settings (without a game disc inside) and change the video output setting to Component (Y Pb Pr). If you skip this step, the screen will display "out of range" or stay black.
